Focus on Whakatauki
Translating Maori Knowledge and Values into Practice Applications
By: Trudy Ake & Leisa Moorhouse
The Whakatauki Resource Kit is designed to enhance the capacity of practitioners, professionals and whanau to apply Maori knowledge as expressed in whakatauki (proverbs) in an innovative and focused way within a range of settings. The Kit is grounded in the knowledge, insight and guidance of our tupuna, and translates Maori knowledge and values into practice applications in social services, health, education, whanau and community settings.
The kit consists of 30 Whakatauki cards and a 72-page practice guide. Selected whakatauki are presented in five broad themes: Identity, Whanau, Communication, Conflict and Well being.
